Eureka Forbes launches low-cost water purifier.

In a bid to target mass consumers, Eureka Forbes has launched its low-cost water purifier called AquaSure Galaxy. The company claims to have used the space age water technology, initially developed for NASA, in the latest offering.

The company, best known for its brand Aquaguard, has partnered with US based Water Security Cooperation (WSC) to develop a low cost storage water purifier using WSC licensed technology. The company states that the Space Certified Technology of WSC, used in AquaSure Galaxy, will aid in disinfecting bacteria and viruses and remove physical and microbiological impurities from drinking water in varying Indian water conditions.

Hence, with a price tag of Rs 2,199, the company is looking at a wider segment of consumers who have a limited income base. Earlier, Tata too had launched its low-cost purifier Tata Swach to target mass and rural consumers, especially where there was need of clean water technology with least electricity consumption and lower price points. On its part, Eureka Forbes is offering a globally tested and approved product that is suitable for the most challenging hygiene conditions of the country.

Adding to that, Dr Raman Venkatesh, Senior Vice President, Technology and Corporate Development, Eureka Forbes, said, “In India, the drinking water scenario is very intense with growing concerns of water scarcity and water contamination. WSC’s technology is space certified and globally acknowledged for providing safe water under challenging conditions. AquaSure Galaxy is one of the safest technologies that are available for storage water purification devices for Indian homes with US EPA registration and space certification.”

Interestingly, this technology was originally developed for NASA and used for a considerable duration in their various programs. The company claims that the technology, used in several countries round the globe, is effective in killing disease causing germs and removing chemicals and other contaminants to provide healthy drinking water suitable for daily consumption.

The new water purifier product comes with a one year cartridge service life to provide 3,000 litres of drinking water. With a product warranty of six months, it also has a ‘Catridge Life Indicator’ that will help customers to gauge the end-of-life of the cartridge.

Lifestyle home accessories brand Magppie has marked its entry into modular kitchens and bars. Priced at Rs 15 lakh and above, these kitchens come with a high degree of technology and are targeted at high net worth individuals.

Magppie was launched in 1999 as a home accessories brand. The company has about 15 mono brand outlets. The company offers nearly 400-500 different types of products under its home accessories umbrella.

This in some ways is like a second coming in the kitchen segment for Magppie. Mr Jain said that Magppie had launched its kitchen range in 2007 under the Icecube brand. However, it didn’t take off then.

Magppie said it has set up Rs 60 crore manufacturing unit in Kundli near Sonepat in Haryana for its new kitchen range. The facility can produce about 60 modular kitchens a day.

The company has another unit, also in Kundli, to manufacture its home accessories range. The design element into the kitchen has been added by German, French and Italian designers and mixes functionality with aesthetic.

Ratan Tata and his successor-in-waiting on Monday launched the Tata group’s consumer electronics retail store Croma online.

The Tata chairman heralded the opening of the subsidiary’s e-commerce operations with a purchase of smartphones and speakers at a press conference also attended by Cyrus Mistry.
Croma, India’s first consumer electronics and durables retail chain, with 72 stores across the country, was formed by Tata’s Infiniti Retail in 2006, in a technical agreement with Australian retail giant Woolworths.

Intel Corporation has joined hands with an Indian company – Lava International – to launch their first smartphone in the market.

At present, the company sells its products through retail channels and multi-brand outlets (MBOs).However it will be getting into franchisee model
opening 25 stores in FY13.
