Mintop Forte is excellent if you are losing hair and the roots are not dead. Hair starts coming back. This needs to be applied regularly as prescribed by doctor. 2% is generally for women and 5% for men, check with your doctor before using. Also, be careful from fakes in market.

The side effects that is mentioned in the Mintop Forte solution literature mentions these side effects of Mintop Forte solution which are said to be rare: - itching - skin rash - a burning scalp - increased hair loss - inflamed skin - swelling of the face
Also, it is mentioned in the Mintop Forte solution literature that if you experience a fast or irregular heartbeat, or chest pain turn to your doctor immediately.
Note that Mintop Forte solution does not stop hair loss but applying it increases the hair growth after around 2-3 months. Mintop Forte Solution helps in regrowing hair that has fallen and whose root is not dead.

Apart from Dr Reddy manufactured Mintop Forte, Tugain from Cipla is also available in India. Tugain apparently has less alocohol and smell than Dr Reddy's Mintop Forte.

Also, Finasteride is supposed to be subscribed only to grown up men and not children or women. It is also not supposed to be handled by pregnant women.

Mintop Forte or Tugain do not cause any issues with other hair oils like coconut oil etc. applied on head. Howver Mintop Forte or Tugain should not be mixed with any other oil or water or liquid while applying.

Here is the mention of Cipla's Tugain from their website:
COMPOSITION
TUGAIN GEL 2 Minoxidil IP ....................... 2% w/w Also contains: Absolute alcohol ................ 30% v/w
TUGAIN GEL 5 Minoxidil IP ........................ 5% w/w Also contains: Absolute alcohol ................ 30% v/w
DOSAGE FORM Gel INDICATIONS TUGAIN GEL 2 is indicated for the treatment of androgenic alopecia in men with male pattern baldness and women with female pattern baldness.
TUGAIN GEL 5 is indicated for the treatment of androgenic alopecia only in men . DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION TUGAIN GEL is for external use only. It should be used only as directed.
TUGAIN GEL should be applied when the hair and scalp are clean and dry. One actuation from the gel bottle provides 1 gm of minoxidil topical gel. Apply 1 gm of TUGAIN GEL twice daily at 12-hour intervals to the scalp, beginning at the centre of the affected area and spreading the gel out to cover the entire affected area. The total daily application dose should not exceed 2 gm.
For best results, TUGAIN GEL should be allowed to remain on the scalp for about 4 hours before washing. The night-time application should be done 2-4 hours before going to bed to allow the gel to dry out.
TUGAIN GEL should not be massaged into the scalp, but applied lightly. A hair dryer should not be used to speed up the drying of the gel as it may decrease the effectiveness. TUGAIN GEL should not be mixed with any hair oil.
The drug should not be used more frequently than two times a day, or be taken orally or applied to any other part of the body to avoid the risk of adverse effects and unwanted hair growth.
In case of missing any daily applications of TUGAIN GEL , the patient should continue with the next dose.
Hands should be washed immediately if TUGAIN GEL is applied with the fingertips.
Clinical experience with minoxidil indicates that twice-daily applications for 4 months or more may be required before there is evidence of hair growth. To arrest hair fall, TUGAIN GEL should be used for not less than 45 days.
CONTRAINDICATIONS TUGAIN GEL is contraindicated in the following conditions:
Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the product. Patients with cardiac abnormalities. Children below 18 years of age, pregnant women and nursing mothers. Patients in whom the reason for hair loss is unknown. Patients using occlusive dressings or other medicines on the scalp. On a shaved scalp, or if there is no family history of hair loss; there is sudden and/or patchy hair loss. Patients with red, inflamed infection, or irritated or painful scalp (including psoriasis and sunburn). Patients with hypovolemic states (e.g., co-treatment with diuretics, dehydration, etc.)

Mintop 10 is also available in India from Dr. Reddy's. This is supposed to be better than Mintop Forte (Mintop lotion having 5% minodixil) as the increased concentration of lotion in Mintop 10 reaches the scalp better to regenerate growth of hair. No increased side effects are indicated. In international markets Mintop or Minodixil solution is supposed to be available in 15% concentration also.

Other points: Mintop lotion(Mintop Forte or Mintop 10 or other variants) should be used on the scalp and not as an oil Mintop lotion works on male pattern baldness or alopecia. It is not supposed to be used in case of frontal baldness or receding hairline. Generally alopecia is supposed to be hereditary. Mintop Forte and Mintop 10 is to be used by male whereas Mintop 2 is for female. Mintop lotion should be applied after a gap of 8-12 hrs, increasing dosage does not help in regenerating hair. Also, Mintop lotion results vary from individual to individual.

Coverit is also a brand of Minodixil. It is cheaper than Mintop Forte or Mintop 10 or Tugain lotions. However, it is not easily available in all pharmacies.

How do we determine if the roots are alive or dead?

Generally roots are alive for 3-6 months after hair fall and Mintop works in this. It is always good to consult a trichologist since Mintop Forte works only for alopecia.

i have got the problem of dandruff because of regular usage of mintop 10. Due to dandruff my doctor recommended me to use mintop 10 in morning and clobimed lotion in evening. So my question is that , by applying mintop 10 only once a day ,would it come out with less productive results or not?

You should follow the instructions of your dermalogist as he can recommend correctly based on observation. Mintop 10 is supposed to be used twice a day with gap of 8 hours at least so that it can be absorbed.
